Hooded Plovers, along with many other beach-nesting birds in Australia as well as around the world, are threatened with extinction because they struggle to breed successfully.
Theses images will give you a clear idea of what to look out for and how you can help to save the Hoodies.
You can learn more about Hooded Plovers, where they live and things you can do to help save them from extinction on the
Birds Australia’s Beach-Nesting Birds page.
Further Information
Dogs on leashes
Beaches seem like great places for the dog to run around and get some exercise, but when dogs run all over the beach they can easily frighten adult Hooded Plovers away from their nest, and they can just as easily step on the nest and crush the eggs in it.
There are many places a dog can run and play, but if there are endangered birds living on the beach it is best to keep dogs on leashes.
